Devil Men Top FDU 8-3 in Season Opener

(Madison, NJ)- The Dickinson College men's lacrosse team opened the 2008 season with an 8-3 win over Farleigh-Dickinson University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Devils held FDU to just one goal in each of the first three quarters while scoring twice in each stanza. FDU struck first in the third quarter to cut the margin to 4-3 before Dickinson rattled off four straight for the 8-3 final.

Sophomore Charlie Gorman (Chevy Chase, MD/Gonzaga) led the attack with three goals on the afternoon, including the eventual game-winner.

Derek Still (Oreland, PA/Penn Charter), Nick Weaver (New York, NY/Millbrook) and (Kevin Murray (Silver Spring, MD/Gonzaga) each added a goal and an assist.

First-year Pat Curley (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) won 6-of-10 face-offs in his collegiate debut. Junior Russell Matthews (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) made nine saves on goal for the Devils.

Evan Mager stopped 12 shots for FDU (0-1).

The Red Devils start the season 1-0. They return home to host St. Mary's (MD) College on Saturday at 3:00 pm. The game is scheduled to be played on the turf in Biddle Stadium.
