FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – For the eighth consecutive season, the Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team, ranked fourth in NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), won its season opener, this time handing host and 16th-ranked University of Mary Washington a 15-10 non-conference decision at the Battleground Athletic Complex on Thursday, Feb. 28.

Gettysburg (1-0), which has every season opener since a 16-10 loss to Mary Washington in 2000, allowed the Eagles (1-1) to score the opening goal just over three minutes in, but the visitors retaliated with a 5-0 run to take the lead for good. After heading into the half with a 9-5 lead and allowing Mary Washington to score the opening goal at the start of the final period, the Bullets ran off four unanswered goals to secure the decision.

Six different players found the back of the net for the visitors, led by senior Krissy Browning's (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) four-goal effort. Senior Katie Ceglarski (Darien, Conn./Darien) posted a team-high seven points on three goals and four assists and cracked Gettysburg's all-time top-10 scoring list in the process. She now has 178 points for her career which ranks her 10th, two points ahead of Anna Haugen '02 and just one behind Amy Farrell '04. Ceglarski also moved up the ladder in assists, moving past Becky Bucha '02 into fourth with 76 for her career.

Sophomore Hollis Stahl (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) also notched a hat trick with three goals, while sophomore Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) tallied two goals and two assists in her Bullet debut. Sophomore Jessica Crane (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) added two goals and one helper and senior Megan Moore (Chestertown, Md./Gunston Day School) put in one goal and dished out one assist. Rounding out the offensive production was senior Jamie Giffuni (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) with an assist.

Gettysburg out-shot the hosts 42-23 in the game and won 17 draw controls. Defensively, sophomore Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) began her second year in the goal for the Bullets on a high note, netting 10 saves.

Next up for Gettysburg is a trip South to Orlando, Fla., for a set of four games. First, the Bullets will open their Centennial Conference slate with a contest against Muhlenberg College on Monday, March 3, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a non-conference affair with Gwynedd-Mercy College later that same day at 3 p.m. Gettysburg will play another pair of contests on Thursday, March 5, first facing off with Roanoke College at 9 a.m. followed by Wittenberg University at 12:30 p.m.
