#1 Salisbury Wins 66th Straight Regular-Season Game

CHESTER, Pa. - The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team broke its NCAA record for consecutive regular season victories on Saturday with a 19-3 win on the road against Widener University. The Sea Gulls have now won 66 straight regular-season games dating back to April 17, 2003.

The old mark, held by SU for 12 years, started on March 11, 1992 with an 8-5 win over Ohio Wesleyan and ended six years later on March 10, 1997 by the Battling Bishops with a 13-10 victory.

This is the fourth time Salisbury has defeated Widener during the current regular-season winning streak. The two teams last squared off in the 2007 NCAA tournament where the Sea Gulls won 16-8 in the second round.

Salisbury's trio of seniors Greg Titus (five goals), Matt Hickman (two goals, two assists) and junior Kylor Berkman (three goals, one assist) led the Sea Gulls on Saturday with 13 combined points. Senior Bruce Richardson had a career game as he scored four goals off the bench for the Sea Gulls (4-0).

Juniors Stephen Krasco (one goal, two assists) and Patrick Bonanno (two assists, one goal) each recorded three-point games for the Gulls while seven other Sea Gulls scored one point in the 16-goal victory.

The Sea Gulls took advantage of the Pride's 10 penalties as the maroon and gold scored seven man-up goals.

Widener (1-1) were led by Clint Quedenfeld (one goal, one assist) while JJ Hoeffler and Cory Malampy each scored a goal apiece in the loss.

SU junior Riley Clark (four saves) started in the net for the Gulls and played the first half before he gave way to fellow junior Zach Krissoff (four saves) spent the entire third period in between the pipes for SU. In the fourth quarter juniors Mike Petti (three saves) and Nick Fiorentino saw time in the net for the maroon and gold in the fourth period.

Salisbury looks to continue its winning streak Wednesday, March 5, when they will host Capital Athletic Conference opponent Hood College at Sea Gull Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
