No. 4 Limestone Defeats No. 9 Queens University

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 1, 2008) – In a highly anticipated Conference Carolinas pairing the No. 9 Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Limestone College 16-4 at the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Royals (3-1 overall/3-1 Conference Carolinas) found themselves down by seven in the first 10 minutes of the game. Kelly Wrightson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) scored the first Queens goal at 8:19 in the first half making the score 9-1. The Saints (3-1 overall/3-1 Conference Carolinas) would answer the Queens goal and add another before half. Carolyn Parsons (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) notched the second Queens goal of the half with an assist coming from Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn./Cooper). The Saints out-shot Queens 22-14 in the half.

Duffey scored both of the Queens goals in the second half. Her first was at the 10 minute mark and the second five minutes later. Limestone scored its first three goals of the half in the first 15 minutes and the second two in the last three minutes of play.

Limestone held just a five shot advantage over Queens in the second half, 15-10. Duffey led Queens with two goals and one assist. Lauryn Wise tallied five goals for Limestone and Summer Ferraro had three. Kelly Lickert provided the team high three assists.

Limestone is the last unbeaten team in Conference Carolinas action. The Royals host Regis University on Thursday, March 6 at 4:00 pm.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Limestone College women's lacrosse team improved its Conference Carolinas record to 3-0 with a 16-4 victory against No. 8 Queens on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Saints (3-1 overall) handed the Royals (3-1 conference/3-1 overall) their first loss of the season. With today's win, the Lady Saints are the only women's lacrosse team in Conference Carolinas undefeated in league play. Limestone had an 11-2 lead at the half and outscored Queens 5-2 in the second.

Marissa Pesce (West Babylon, N.Y.) and Summer Ferraro (East Setauket, N.Y.) each had three goals. Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) scored two goals and tallied two assists. Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) scored twice and had an assist. Katie Ilott (Whitbey, Ontario, Canada) and Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.) recorded a goal and an assist apiece. Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.) and Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) also scored. Kelly Lickert led the Saints with three assists.

Ilott recorded three draw controls for Limestone. Howard had five ground balls while Chrissy Grogg (Taberg, N.Y.) and Pesce both scooped up four ground balls.

Erin Cavanaugh (Ellicott City, Md.) posted seven saves while Michaela Reynolds (Columbia, Md.) had two. Kelley Duffey led Queens with two goals. Royals' goalkeeper Rebecca Markle had 13 saves. Amanda Mahle led Queens with six draw controls.

Limestone had a 37-24 advantage on shots and a 26-20 advantage on ground balls. The Saints were 20-23 on clears while Queens was 13-16.

Limestone hosts Pfeiffer on Wednesday, March 5 in Gaffney, S.C., at 4:00 p.m.
