Late Run Leads Devils Past St. Mary's
(Carlisle, PA)- The Dickinson College men's lacrosse team broke an 8-8 tie with three straight goals to secure an 11-9 victory over visiting St. Mary's College on Saturday.
Senior Tyler Rose (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) broke the tie with his third goal of the afternoon before junior Casey Finkelstein (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh) struck twice in a span of 35 seconds to put the Devils in control 11-8 with 5:43 remaining in the game.
Ryan Alexander tacked on one more for the 11-9, recording his game-high sixth goal of the afternoon.
Dickinson pulled in front 2-0 at the end of the first period. The Seahawks came alive with five goals in the second to went into the break tied 5-5 as the Devils scored three before the half.
The teams entered the final stanza tied at 8-8 with the Devils coming out on top in the final 15 minutes.
Finkelstein and Rose each finished with three-goal hat-tricks on the day. Sophomore Charlie Gorman (Chevy Chase, MD/Gonzaga) added a pair of goals for the Devils.
Russell Matthews (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) turned in a great performance in the Devil net, stopping 15 shots. Chris Breslin (Garden City, NY/Garden City) anchored a solid defensive effort with three ground balls.
First-year Pat Curley (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joesph) won seven face-offs, including 4-of-6 in the third quarter.
The Red Devils improve to 2-0 on the season. They are home again on Wednesday, hosting Lycoming College at 3:30 pm.
