Louisville Improves to 3-0 with Win over Robert Morris
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- First-year attackers Liz Lovejoy and Bergan Foley scored four goals each to lead the University of Louisville lacrosse team to a 19-3 win over Robert Morris University on Sunday afternoon at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium. With the win, the Cards improve to 3-0 on the season and are averaging 20.3 goals per game.
The Cards opened things by scoring the games first six goals, including two by Lovejoy and two by first-year midfielder Emily Dashiell, to gain control in the first eight minutes of action. After a free position goal by the Colonials (1-1) Jenn Collins with 18:14 left in the first half, the Cards closed the first stanza by scoring seven straight goals to hold a 13-1 advantage at the break.
During the Cards first half scoring barrage, Dashiell, Foley and Lovejoy scored three goals each, while first-year attacker Lianne Bobal scored two of her three goals on the day. Louisville continued its scoring streak by opening the second half with four straight goals for a 17-1 lead with 20:05 left in the game. RMU ended the Cards scoring goal streak at 11 straight with a goal at the 17:56 mark of the second half.
First-year attacker Sierra Smith-Hart led the Cards with two assists. Overall, the Cards outshot the Colonials 39-13 and U of L was a perfect 10-for-10 on clear attempts.
Defensively, junior goalkeeper Jen Heup had six saves and the Cards forced 15 of RMUs 26 turnovers. Louisville controlled 15 of the 24 draws while picking up 22 ground balls on the day, led by first-year midfielder Brittany Poists six.
Up next, the Cards will be on the road for six straight games starting with St Josephs on Friday, March 7 at noon ET in Philadelphia, Pa. The Cards next home game will be March 30 against No. 9 ranked Georgetown.
