No. 7 Gannon Moves to 2-0 With Win at St. Andrews
LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Gannon women's lacrosse team has found its offensive groove during the first week of the regular season. Gannon, ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, followed a 20-goal performance in its season opener yesterday with an 18-6 victory at St. Andrews Presbyterian (N.C.) Sunday afternoon.
Gannon opened a large halftime advantage as it did in the season opener, bolting out to a 9-2 lead against St. Andrews Presbyterian. The Lady Knights then out-scored the home squad 9-4 in the final 30 minutes.
Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) led the offensive unit with four goals and two assists. Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) also tallied four goals. Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) and Christina Blasi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) both recorded hat tricks while Blasi added an assist.
Antonia Cianfrocco (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) posted two goals and two assists. Sarah Belen (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) and Dana Rousseau (Easton, Md./Easton) completed the scoring with one goal each.
Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) turned away 14 shots while improving to 2-0 in goal.
Gannon improved to 2-0 overall while St. Andrews Presbyterian dropped to 2-4. The Lady Knights complete their Spring Trip Tuesday, March 4 at eighth-ranked Belmont Abbey. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
