DURHAM, N.H. Senior Ashley Crook (South Burlington, Vt.) and junior Ashley Durepo (Concord, N.H.) each scored three goals, but the University of New Hampshire womens lacrosse team lost its non-conference, intrastate showdown with 20th-ranked Dartmouth College, 14-10, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.

The Wildcats fall to 1-2 on the young season, while the Big Green improve to 2-1.

Senior Moira Talbot (Marblehead, Mass.) also delivered a multi-point effort, tallying two goals and an assist. Durepo earned an assist on Talbots first goal, which opened the scoring for the Wildcats, leaving her one point shy of her career-best five points.

After Dartmouth built a 3-0 lead on two goals by Eliza Bennett, who finished the contest with a game-high five, the Wildcats jumped on the board with Talbots goal at 17:12 and then pulled to within one when Crook found the back of the net for the first time at 15:54.

Dartmouth regained its two-goal lead 33 seconds later on Kristen Barrys second tally of the game, but Crook responded with a free position goal at 11:01 to cut the Big Green lead to 4-3.

Dartmouth reeled off seven straight goals, including four in the first six minutes of the second half, to extend its advantage to 11-3. Durepo snapped the Wildcats 18:50 scoring drought when she received a crossing feed from Talbot and beat Dartmouth goalkeeper Julie Wadland. Durepo recorded her second goal four-and-a-half minutes later off a free position try to pull the Wildcats within six.

At 17:05, Bennett notched her fifth goal of the game to jump-start a 3-0 run, which increased Dartmouths lead to 14-5.

With 2:25 remaining, the game looked seemingly out of hand for the Wildcats, but Susie Piotrkowskis (Franklin, Conn.) first-career goal touched off a five-goal barrage that closed the scoring with nine seconds left. The unanswered goals by sophomore Shaunna Kaplan (Framingham, Mass.), Durepo, Crook and Talbot got the Wildcats rolling, but it was too little, too late.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Milley (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with five saves for the Wildcats, while Wadland stopped seven shots for Dartmouth. Both teams recorded 22 shots in the game.

The Wildcats return to action Wednesday, March 5 when they travel to take on Yale University at 3 p.m. The next home game for the Cats is Friday, March 7 when they play host to the University of Connecticut at 3:00 p.m.

Durham, N.H. - The 20th ranked Dartmouth women's lacrosse team retained Granite State bragging rights with its 13th straight win over the University of New Hampshire, 14-10, this afternoon. Dartmouth improved to 2-1 with the win while New Hampshire dropped to 1-2.

It was a coming out party for sophomore Eliza Bennett (Darien, Conn.) who scored five goals. Senior Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.) added four goals to the Big Green's tally.

"We had a lot of pretty goals and nice caused turnovers today and we are continuing to get better each day which is our mantra right now," said Head Coach Amy Patton. "We will learn from both the thing we did and did not do well as we prepare for UMass."

Dartmouth came out of the gates fast, scoring two goals in the first four minutes, with one each from Barry and Bennett to take a 2-0 lead. Bennett scored again at 18:56 to make it 3-0 Dartmouth before UNH potted two quick goals to pull within one at 15:29.

Barry responded with a goal eight seconds later before New Hampshire's Ashley Crook scored her second goal of the half to make it 4-3, Dartmouth at 11:01. The Big Green buckled down for the balance of the half, scoring three-straight from Greta Meyer (Denver, Colo.), Colleen Olsen (Avon, Conn.) and Broghan Cully (Duxbury, Mass.) to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.
