DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior midfielder Katie McGovern drew an eight-meter free position then scored the ensuing goal with 13 seconds remaining to lift UC Davis to a 14-13 win over Holy Cross in a non-conference collegiate women's lacrosse game at Aggie Stadium Monday afternoon. The Aggies pick up their first win, improving to 1-4 for the year. The Crusaders remain winless at 0-4 overall.

Senior attacker Katie McMahon led all players with six goals and three assists for nine total points, while McGovern added five. Freshman Christina Corsa scored two goals and freshman Laura Martin chipped one to round out the UC Davis offense. For Holy Cross, senior Nikki Bolduc and sophomore Katie Gardner each had three goals and an assist.

McMahon had four of her team's five goals in a 5-2 start to the contest, then assisted McGovern at the 25:00 mark to send the Aggies to a 6-3 edge. UC Davis led 7-4 at the break and 10-6 at the 38:49 mark after McMahon hit her fifth goal. However, that began a Crusader comeback, as Bolduc landed two goals and an assist to rally her team to a 7-1 run. Her third goal, at the 48:17, put Holy Cross up by a 12-11 advantage. Five minutes later, Annie Boylan scored on a fast break to bump the Crusader lead to 13-11.

The Aggies, who had struggled in eight-meter attempts earlier in the year, made the most of such spots in the final minutes of the game. Corsa converted hers with 2:34 remaining to cut the deficit to 13-12, then McGovern hit her eight-meter attempt at the 58:01 to equalize the score.

McMahon won the ensuing draw but Bolduc quickly earned a steal near the Holy Cross restraining line. Before the Crusaders could begin their transition, Corsa picked off an interception against Bolduc with 1:39 left in the game. McGovern advanced on the cage and pump-faked, drawing a shooting space foul and an eight-meter attempt. She opted not to take the initial shot, traveled across cage, then found the right side of the net for the game-winner seconds later.

Holy Cross won the next draw to give itself a chance to force an overtime, but an errant pass ended any attacking threat and preserved the win for UC Davis. McMahon finished the game with an outstanding overall line: six goals, three assists, five ground balls, four draw controls and five steals for UC Davis. McGovern shot 5-for-6 on the day and picked up a pair of ground ball. Aggie goalkeeper Hilary Harkins had 12 saves, including a key stop in the final minutes that eventually led to Corsa's goal in the 58th.

UC Davis returns to action on Monday, March 10 for a home game against Quinnipiac.

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis' Katie McGovern scored the game-winner with 13 seconds left regulation as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to UC Davis, 14-13, this afternoon in non-conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-4, while the Aggies improve to 1-4.

Senior tri-captain Nikki Bolduc (Exeter, N.H.) and sophomore Katie Gardner (Garden City) each had three goals and one assist to lead the Crusaders. Senior Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.) and sophomore Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) each scored two goals, while junior Lisa Gagne (Groton, Mass.), freshman Annie Boylan (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Mary Milley (Fairfax, Va.) each scored one goal.
