No. 6 Gannon Defeats 10th-Ranked Belmont Abbey

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Gannon women's lacrosse team used a strong second-half performance Wednesday afternoon to conclude its Spring Trip with an impressive 15-11 victory over Belmont Abbey in a battle of nationally-ranked teams at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Lady Knights are ranked sixth while the Crusaders are tabbed 10th.

The two programs were tied at six heading into the halftime, but the Lady Knights out-scored the Crusaders 9-6 in the second half.

Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) led the scoring with five goals each. Dixon also dished out an assist. Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) recorded two goals and two assists.

Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego), Antonia Cianfrocco (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango), and Sarah Belen (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) concluded the scoring with one goal each. Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) was spectacular in goal, making 18 saves.

Gannon improved to 3-0 while Belmont Abbey dropped to 2-2. The Lady Knights return to action Sunday, March 9 at Division I Canisius. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
