Ursinus Moves to 2-0 with Victory over Drew
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College sophomore attack Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) scored a game-high four goals as the Bears (2-0) opened up their home schedule on a cold and windy Wednesday night with a 13-6 win over Drew (0-1) in men's lacrosse play.
The Bears also got three goals from senior midfielder Dane Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) as Ursinus won its sixth straight home opener. The Bears are 6-0 all-time in school history in home openers.
Sophomore attack Pat Nagle (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) added in two scores for Ursinus. Sophomore long-stick midfielder Derrin Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) and junior attack Jason Orlando (Morton, PA/Springfield) each had two assists.
For Drew, sophomore attack Jon Bucknam had three goals and an assist.
In goal, Ursinus junior Tony Aquilino (Abington, PA/Archbishop Wood) made 18 saves on 37 total shots, improving to 2-0 on the young season. Ranger junior goalkeeper Michael Celentano had nine saves.
Drew took an early 2-0 lead as senior attack Robert Busziszewski had the first goal of the game at 12:06, followed by a goal from junior defender Michael DeGiovanni at 8:26.
Ursinus then scored the next four goals of the game to go up 4-2. Farris netted his first goal at 6:40 off a Dane Mangin assist. Orlando scored his first goal of the game at 4:37 on an assist from senior attack Justin Reinke (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville).
With the score tied at 2-all starting the second frame, Nagle scored his first goal at 9:35 off of an Orlando assist. That was the third straight extra-man goal scored by the Bears.
Dane Mangin scored his first goal at 6:27 to give Ursinus a 4-2 lead.
After a goal from Bucknam at 4:46, Ursinus scored a goal with just nine ticks left as sophomore midfielder Jake West (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) netted a goal off an Orlando assist.
Ursinus scored the next five goals to take a 10-3 lead and never looked back.
Ursinus converted on 22-of-24 clears on the night, while grabbing 42 groundballs. Ursinus sophomore defender Vince Redko (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) had five groundballs for the Bears.
Ursinus will travel to Villa Julie on Saturday afternoon.
