No. 16 James Madison Handles Longwood with Ease

HARRISONBURG, Va., March 5, 2008 -- Number 15/16 (Inside Lacrosse/IWLCA) James Madison defeated Longwood 16-5 in women's lacrosse Wednesday evening at the JMU Lacrosse Complex. The Dukes got their first win on the young season in the team's first home game of the year. JMU's record now stands at 1-2, while Longwood dropped to 1-4.

JMU scored the game's first five goals in the opening 10 minutes and led 8-2 at halftime. Seniors Julie Stone (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and Annie Wagner (Annapolis, Md./St. Paul's) led JMU with four goals apiece, and Wagner also had an assist. Others with multiple goals included redshirt sophomore Kim Griffin (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) and sophomore Jessie Heisterman (Arno l! ! d, Md./Broadneck), who each contributed two scores.

Longwood junior Dee Warehime (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led her team with two goals and an assist. JMU senior goalkeeper Kelly Wetzel (Catonsville, Md./Mount De Sales) played just over 45 minutes and made seven saves, and sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Kelly (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) had a save in just under 15 minutes.

Longwood senior goalkeeper Jennifer Holliday (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) stopped 15 shots and played just under 50 minutes. Sophomore goalkeeper Eliza Coughter (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) played the final 10 minutes of the match. JMU held a 34-17 advantage in shots.

FARMVILLE, Va - Longwood University lacrosse fell to #17 James Madison 16-5 on Wednesday evening in Harrisonburg, holding the Dukes to just eight points in each half. The Lancers fall to 1-4 on the season, led by junior Dee Warehime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster) who scored two goals, taking her season total to 11. Longwood returns to action on March 8 when they take on Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md., at 3 p.m.

James Madison took an early 4-0 lead just ten minutes into the first half, forcing the Lancers to fight their way into the game. Junior Liz Sellmayer/Catonsville, Md. (Mount de Sales Academy) got the scoring started for Longwood, scoring her fourth goal of the season at the 19:56 mark off a Warehime pass.

The Lancers would not score again until there was 1:53 left in the first half. Junior Joyce Haines/Prince Frederick, Md. (Calvert) scored the goal for Longwood after earning a free position shot. James Madison would get the last word in, in the first half scoring its eighth goal of the half with 14 seconds remaining in the period.

The second half began very similar to the first, with James Madison jumping out of the gates early. This time the Dukes would score five goals before Longwood could find its way to goal. Warehime would score Longwoods first goal of the second half, scoring an unassisted goal with 14:49 left to play. Another six minutes would pass before the Lancers would score again, this time with Warehime finding the net after earning a free position shot.

Sophomore Britt Farquharson/Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (Lorne Park Secondary School) would give Longwood the last word in the second half, scoring her six goal of the season with 4:50 left to play. The goal would not be enough as the Lancers would fall 16-5.
