Queens Women's Lacrosse Downs Regis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 3, 2008) – Queens University of Charlotte used an 8-2 first half advantage to defeat Regis University in women's lacrosse action by a final score of 12-5 at the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. The Royals improve to 4-1 overall and Regis falls to 0-4 overall.

The Royals scored the first goal of the game just under two minutes into the game when Brittany Weller (Fallston, Md./Fallston)connected with Kelly Wrightson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus). Wrightson scored a minute and a half later off of an assist from Sarah Hannon(Sykesville, Md./Liberty).

Hannon provided the next two Queens' assists, one to Carolyn Parsons(Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) and the other to Amanda Mahle (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) for the 4-0 lead.

Mahle assisted Wrightson for the fifth goal of the game with 18:17 left to play in the half. Wrightson scored three goals in the game, tying her season best three goals against Pfeiffer earlier this season.

Hannon notched goal number six for the Royals unassisted followed by Catherine Szabo's (Alphretta, Ga./Centennial) first goal of the game. Szabo's goal was one of two free-position goals for the Royals in the game.

Regis broke the Royals 7-0 run when Lillian Yanni scored on a free-position attempt.

The scoring would halt for about six minutes until Carolynn Loan (Cazenovia, N.Y./Herkimer CC)would score Queens' goal number eight with 46 seconds left to play in the half.

Cristina Johnson tallied the second Ranger goal with 26 ticks left in the half.

At the half the visitors held a one shot advantage, 16-15, over the Royals. Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) got the start for Queens in the goal and made eight shots and let two goals in. Logan Canale(Orlando, Fla./Colonial) came in for the second half and also made eight saves.

Mahle her second goal of the game two and a half minutes into the second half. Weller scored the second free-position goal for the Royals at 23:26. Parsons and Loan combined for Parsons' second goal and the 11th goal for Queens.

Regis slowed the Royals when Kelsi Goings put one past Berrier for the third Ranger goal. Johnson and Jen Gunlikson tallied two more goals in the second half, but the Rangers could not mount enough of a comeback before time ran out.

Mahle notched her third goal of the game with 46 seconds remaining in the game for the 12-5 victory.

Brittany Farniok spent the majority of the game between the pipes for the Rangers making five saves and giving up 11 of the 12 goals. Erin Lewis replaced Farniok with 4:23 remaining in the game and gave up one goal.

Queens edged Regis in draw controls with 10 to their nine and trailed in shot 29-24. The Rangers also held the advantage in ground balls, 32-26.

Queens hosts Seton Hill on Saturday, March 9 at 11:00 am.
