BALTIMORE-Senior midfielder Terry Kimener (Oakton, Va./Bridgton Academy) became the 24th player in UMBC history to tally over 100 points in a career as he added seven points (5g, 2a) in UMBC's 11-9 win over Yale on Saturday at UMBC Stadium.

Kimener recorded career highs with five goals scored and a total of seven points, to bring his career total to 104 points, in the Retrievers (2-3) and Bulldogs (1-2) first-ever meeting, while junior netminder Jeremy Blevins (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall) tallied seven saves in 60:00.

Kimener notched his first goal just 2:58 into the game off a feed from freshman midfielder Jamie Kimbles (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's) and the Retrievers took a 2-0 lead four minutes later as junior attack Ryan Smith (Fallston, Md./Fallston/CCBC-Essex) added an unassisted goal at 6:51.

The Bulldogs cut that lead in half, however, with 22 seconds left in the first quarter off an unassisted goal by Brendan Gibson and knotted the score at two apiece just 46 seconds into the second quarter after Tyler Casertano's shot found the back of the net.

Sophomore midfielder Maxx Davis (Baltimore, Md./Friends) scored the first of two goals of the afternoon at the 4:47 mark, but the Bulldogs quickly tied the score at three, with a goal by Kyle Washabaugh just eight seconds later.

The Retrievers tallied three more scores before the end of the half with an unassisted goal by freshman attack Dom Scalzo (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), and two goals by Kimener, both assisted by sophomore midfielder Kyle Wimer to take a 6-3 lead before Casertano scored for Yale with 30 seconds left in the half for a 6-4 score at the break.

Davis added his second goal 1:09 into the third quarter and the Retrievers scored twice more off junior attack Alex Hopmann's (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) goal from Kimener and Kimener's fourth goal of the afternoon for a 9-4 lead over the Bulldogs.

Yale answered just 45 seconds after Kimener's goal with a score by Casertano, and after Hopmann's second tally from Kimener wit 2:40 left in the quarter, the Bulldogs scored three consecutive goals within 51 seconds to cut the Retriever lead to two, 10-8 going into the fourth.

Kimener added his fifth and final goal of the game 3:14 into the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs added their last score with 10:57 left as both teams saw a scoreless span of almost 11 minutes on the way to the 11-9 victory for the Retrievers.

Kimener lead all scorers with seven points (5g, 2a), while Casertano led the Bulldogs with four points (3g, 1a), with the Retrievers also holding the advantage on shots, 36-26, but Yale committing 18 turnovers to UMBC's 22.

The Retrievers return to competition on Friday, March 14 when they host Maryland at 7:30 p.m. at UMBC Stadium.

Terry Kimener had five goals and two assists as the University of Maryland-Baltimore Country (UMBC) men's lacrosse team hung on for an 11-9 win over Yale before 418 at UMBC Stadium.

The Retrievers had the edge in shots (36-26) and ground balls (33-16) and never trailed after jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes.

Brendan Gibson hit the net with 22 seconds left in the first and Tyler Casertano, who led Yale (1-2) with three goals and an assist, scored to even things early in the second. That was as close as the Elis would come against UMBC (2-3).

The lead grew as large as 10-5 after the Retrievers ran off six of the seven goals scored between the eight minute mark of the second and three minutes left in the third. The Bulldogs did score five of the last seven to make it close but did not have a realistic shot of taking the game at that point.
