Colgate Cruises to 15-5 Victory at Holy Cross
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross mens lacrosse team fell to Colgate, 15-5, on Saturday afternoon in the home-opener at the Hart Turf Field in Patriot League action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-2 overall (0-2 Patriot League), while the Raiders improve to 3-2 overall (1-0 Patriot League).
Sophomore Edison Parzanese (Edgartown, Mass.) scored two goals and had one assist for the Crusaders, while junior Luke Marchand (Concord, Mass.) also netted two goals. Sophomore Mike Nagle (Timonium, Md.) scored his first collegiate goal, while senior Tim Redmond (Andover, Mass.) added an assist.
Colgate was led by Kevin Colleluoris four goals and two assists for six points, while Brandon Corp had three goals and one assist for four points.
Colgate jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal by Ian Murphy in the first minute of play. The Crusaders answered back with a goal by Nagle off an assist by Parzanese with 7:44 left on the clock in the first period. The Raiders then took the lead with 3:49 left in the period with a goal by Nick Monastero. Colgate started the second period off with two straight goals to increase its lead to 4-1. The goals were by Colleluori and Corp. After Marchand made it a 4-2 contest, the Raiders scored the last three goals of the first half for the 7-2 advantage.
Parzanese opened the third period with a goal to make it a 7-3 score, but Colgate then scored five consecutive goals to take a 12-3 lead. Parzanese then broke Colgates scoring streak with 52 seconds remaining in the third period for his second goal of the game. The Raiders netted the first three goals of the fourth period, before Marchand scored the last goal of the game for the 15-5 final score.
Junior goalie Jimmy Harrison (East Williston, N.Y.) made nine saves for the Crusaders, while Holy Cross sophomore goalie Connor Sweeney (South Salem, N.Y.) stopped two shots. Colgates Tim Harrington made eight saves and Brian Cain stopped one shot. The Raiders outshot the Crusaders, 37-24, while Holy Cross picked up 27 ground balls and Colgate had 24.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, March 15, when they travel to Dallas, Texas, to meet Patriot League opponent Navy at Texas Stadium at 1:00 p.m. (EST) at the Patriot Cup.

WORCESTER, Mass. (3/8/08)-Four Colgate University players recorded at least three goals as the Raiders cruised to a 15-5 victory over Holy Cross in the Raiders' Patriot League men's lacrosse opener. Junior Kevin Colleluori (Bethpage, N.Y.) tied his career-high with six points to lead all scorers.
The Raiders push their win streak to three games and are 3-2 overall and 1-0 in Patriot League play. Holy Cross falls to 3-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference action.
Colleluori tallied four goals and added two assists to lead the Raider attack, while senior Matt Lalli (Princeton Junction, N.J.) had a season-best three goals and two assists. Junior Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) registered three goals and an assist for his fifth consecutive game this season with at least four points. Sophomore Ian Murphy (Constantia, N.Y.) tallied his first career hat trick in the victory.
Both teams got off to a slow start in the first quarter as Colgate held a narrow 2-1 advantage after the opening 15 minutes. Murphy opened the game with an unassisted score just 56 seconds into the contest and junior Nick Monastero (Bohemia, N.Y.) broke the 1-1 tie with just under four minutes left in the period with his first goal of the season. Lalli provided the assist on Monastero's tally.
