No. 6 Hamilton Dominates Crosstown Rival Utica
CLINTON, N.Y. -- Kaillie Briscoe '09 scored four goals, including the 100th of her career, and added two assists to help lead nationally ranked No. 6 Hamilton College to an 18-4 non-league win against visiting Utica College in a women's lacrosse game at Campus Road Athletic Field on March 8.
Hamilton (1-0 overall) grabbed a 1-0 lead just 39 seconds in when Anne Graveley '11 notched her first career goal off a Nicole Tetreault '08 assist. Tetreault finished with a goal and three assists. Sarah Bray '11 scored her first career goal with 28:20 left in the half to up the score to 2-0. Audrey Nebergall '10 made it 3-0 at 27:28 off a Briscoe assist.
Utica (0-3 overall) got on the board just 41 seconds later when Tammy Kohanski '11 scored the first of her three goals. Casey Pelletier '08 assisted. The Pioneers made it 3-2 when Kohanski scored 37 seconds later on a free-position shot.
The Continentals' Jen McGowan '08 answered with the first of her game-high five goals on a free-position score at 24:48, and Briscoe made it 5-2 at 24:07 on an unassisted tally.
Kohanski scored again for Utica unassisted with 22:50 remaining, but then Hamilton ran off five unanswered goals to pull away. The goals were scored by McGowan, Briscoe, McGowan again, Bray and Tetreault.
Utica got on the board again with 12:46 left before the break when Jackie Vicencio '09 scored the team's final goal. Hamilton then scored the game's final eight goals, including the only four of the second half.
Kate Fowler '10 earned her first career win by making one save in all 60 minutes of her first career start. Rebecca Beyer '11 started for Utica and made one save before she was relieved by Kelly George '08 midway through the first half. George played the remainder of the game, making three stops.
Hamilton outshot Utica, 30-8, and had 18 draw controls to the Pioneers' six. The Continentals were playing their 400th game in the history of the program. They are 236-164 all-time and 2-0 against Utica. Hamilton has won 11 straight games at home dating back to 2006 and 14 consecutive regular season games overall.
