Boston College Loses Tight Battle to No. 10 Yale
Westwood, Mass. - Boston College lacrosse dropped a hard-fought matchup to No. 10 Yale on Saturday afternoon. For the first time this season, the Eagles did not registered a double-digit score, as they lost, 11-8. Sophomore Lauren Costello and junior Lauren Fitzpatrick led the way with two goals apiece. BC is now 1-3 on the season, while Yale improved to 3-1.
Yale got on the board first, scoring within three minutes of the opening whistle when Meredith Callahan recorded an unassisted goal. It took Costello less than two minutes to even the score when she netted her 11th goal of the season.
After the two teams traded goals again, the Eagles took the lead when junior Sarah Sedgwick notched a free position goal and then Costello recorded a score assisted by junior captain Jenna McCabe before the halfway mark in the first period. After a goal by Jenna Block to make the score 4-3 in the Eagles' favor, freshman Kaitlyn Horsman nailed a free position score and McCabe tallied a goal to put BC on top, 6-3.
The Bulldog managed to close the gap, scoring the last two goals before the end of the first half. With 30 minutes played, the Eagles led, 6-5. They outshot the Bulldogs, 12-9, and collected eight draw controls to Yale's four.
Jenn Warden scored just 57 seconds into the second half to even the score at six apiece. Kat Peetz nailed the go-ahead goal, one of her five goals of the day, at 25:53. Emily Hannigan retied the score less than three minutes later, but two-straight goals by the Bulldogs gave them a lead they would not lose again.
Fitzpatrick scored BC's final goal with 9:44 remaining to make the score 9-8. Peetz registered the last two goals of the day, including one with 12 seconds left to seal the win for Yale.
The Bulldogs outshot the Eagles, 24-19, on the rainy afternoon. BC picked up nine groundballs to Yale's 13. Junior netminder Katie Monaghan recorded six saves while playing all 60 minutes.
The Eagles take the field again when they travel to Connecticut to play Fairfield on Wednesday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m.

Yale (3-1) won the opening draw and got a goal from senior attacker Meredith Callahan a minute in. But the Eagles began seizing momentum with a pair of goals from Lauren Costello and Lauren Fitzpatrick. Yale tied it on a goal by Peetz before BC (1-3) tacked on two more goals.
Block converted a feed from senior midfielder Lauren Taylor with 12:39 left in the half, but when the Eagles reeled off another pair of goals the Bulldogs, trailing 6-3, called timeout.
The turnaround started immediately after the timeout, as Taylor got the draw control and Warden scored 30 seconds later. Peetz' free-position goal with two minutes remaining in the half pulled Yale within one heading into halftime.
