#1 Franklin & Marshall Holds off #9 Washington & Lee

LANCASTER, Pa. – Sarah Meisenberg (Severna Park, MD/ Severn School) and Ashley Bevington (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School) each had a pair of goals to lead No. 1 Franklin & Marshall past ninth-ranked Washington & Lee in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

The Diplomats (2-0) jumped out to a 6-1 halftime lead and held off a late rally by the Generals (4-1) to win their home opener.

Lidia Sanza (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's School for girls) made seven saves for her second win in the net, while Shannon Summers (North Wales, PA/The Hill School) registered two points with a goal and an assist.

Kelsi Robinson led Washington & Lee with a goal and an assist.

F&M opened the scoring with the first five goals of the game, recording three goals in just three minutes, 34 seconds to take the lead and hold on for its second victory.

Meisenberg netted the first two goals for the Diplomats, before Bevington finished an unassisted tally for a 3-0 lead. Summers fed Blake Hargest (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's School for Girls) from behind the goal 50 seconds later and Jen Pritchard (Media, PA/Penncrest) scored her second goal of the season.

At the 10:19 mark, Robinson put the Generals on the board off a pass from Emily Mathews, but Summers made it 6-1 with the final goal of the half.

Washington & Lee went on a 3-0 run to start the second half to cut the lead to 6-4. Bevington managed to get her second of the day and the only in the final stanza for the Diplomats for a 7-4 margin.

Meisenberg added six ground balls and three draw controls, while Carli McLaughlin (Garden City, NY/Garden City) caused three turnovers and grabbed four ground balls.

The Diplomats return to action on Thursday against Nihon University from Japan. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Top-ranked Franklin & Marshall jumped out to a 6-1 halftime lead and held on for a 7-4 win over ninth-ranked Washington and Lee in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster, Pa.

Sarah Meisenberg jump-started a five-goal run to start the game for F&M as she found the net twice in the opening 10:33 of the game. The Generals got on the board at the 10:19 mark of the first half as junior attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) scored off an assist from freshman midfielder Emily Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), but the Diplomats (2-0) added a goal from Shannon Summers at 8:13 for a 6-1 lead at the break.

The Generals (4-1) opened the second half with three-straight goals to cut it to a 6-4 game with 14:05 remaining, but could get no closer as Ashley Bevington scored unassisted for F&M at 7:29 to provide the final margin.

Washington and Lee was led by Robinson's one goal and one assist, while senior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the entire contest in goal and stopped six shots.

Meisenberg and Bevington led the Diplomats with two goals apiece, while Shannon Summers recorded one goal and one assist. Goalkeeper Lidia Sanza played 60:00 and recorded seven saves.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to ODAC-foe Roanoke for a 4:00 pm contest.
