Colby Escapes Williams in Double Overtime
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Drew Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass.) scored in the second overtime period to lift the Colby College men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 season-opening victory over Williams College on Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
Caddy Brooks (Stowe, Vt.) finished with three goals and one assist for Colby (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC). Piekarski also had three goals, while Whit McCarthy (Darien, Conn.) added one goal and two assists. Todd Boertzel (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) was solid in the midfield with three assists, Stew Brown (Wilton, Conn.) had one goal and one assist, and Dana McNally (Sudbury, Mass.) had one goal.
The Mules led 1-0 after the first period and had a 4-1 lead before Williams battled back to tie the game at four at halftime. Both teams had one goal in the third and each had three in the fourth period.
Dixon Hargrove (Wallingford, Pa.) led Williams (0-1, 0-1 NESCAC) with two goals and two assists. David Hawley (New Canaan, N.J.) had three goals in his debut, while Kevin Connelly (Englewood, Colo.), Andy Camposeo (Florence, Mass.), and Tim White (Englewood, Colo.) each tallied once.
Alex Farmer (Madison, Conn.) stopped 15 shots for the Mules, while Michael Gerbush (Glen Head, N.Y.) was credited with nine stops.
Colby plays again at home on Wednesday with a 5:00 p.m. start against Babson College.
