Hofstra Runs Out of Gas on Road Trip, Falls to Cornell

Ithaca, NY -- Playing nearly its third full game in four days on the road, the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team ran out of gas and dropped a 14-3 decision to Cornell at Schoellkopf Field on Monday afternoon. The game against the Big Red was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon but was called midway through the second half due to unplayable field conditions.

Cornell led 4-1 at half and outscored the Pride, 10-2, in the second half to account for the 11-goal differential.

The Big Red improves to 4-0 with the win, while Hofstra sees its record fall to 2-3 this season.

The Big Red jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the game as Katherine Simmons scored off a Libby Johnson assist with 9:01 left in the half. Hofstra would finally get on the board with 1:20 remaining before intermission when sophomore midfielder Corrine Gandolfi scored an unassisted goal.

A 5-0 run from Cornell to start the second half would put the game out of reach as Charlotte Schmidlapp tallied a pair during the half-opening run.

Sophomore attack Courtney O'Connor would notch the Pride's second goal of the game at the 22:15 mark, with freshman attack Stephanie Rice accounting for Hofstra's other goal in the game.

Senior goalie Maisie Osteen started the game and made seven saves and picked up a team-best three ground balls. Junior defender Alysse Ruszkowski had two caused turnovers in the contest.

Courtney Farrell had a huge game for Cornell, notching three goals and five assists. Noelle Dowd added four goals and one assist, while goalie Renee Hughes made nine stops in net and had five ground balls in the contest.

Hofstra returns to action on Saturday when they host Brown at 1:00 p.m.
