Virginia Wesleyan Edges McDaniel

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Jordan Kenney netted five goals, including the game-winner, to lead Virginia Wesleyan to an 11-10 victory over McDaniel in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Mike Hatton (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) led the Green Terror (1-1) with his first hat trick, scoring two of his three goals before halftime.

The Marlins (3-2) got 12 saves from goalkeeper Tom Skartsiaris, including seven stops in the fourth quarter.

Knotted at 10-all after back-to-back goals seven seconds apart from Chris Edmonds (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and Jed Barnes (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), Kenney finished a Maicin Dunk feed with 2:44 to play to win the game.

Kenney and Hatton exchanged first-quarter tallies before Chad Hill and Kenney found the back of the net nine seconds apart to give Virgnia Wesleyan a 3-1 lead.

Bill Warner (Yardley, Pa./LaSalle) scored an extra-man goal nearly a minute and a half later.

Drew Langis re-established the two-goal advantage before Hatton converted the second of four McDaniel man-up goals 33 seconds before the intermission to cut the deficit to one.

Hill and Langis pushed the lead to 5-2 just over three minutes into the third quarter.

Trailing 8-5 with 3:16 to play in the third quarter, Edmonds sparked a three-goal flurry to pull the Green Terror even 3:34 into the fourth quarter.

The Marlins countered with a pair of goals before Edmonds and Barnes drew the visitors even for the last tie.

Barnes won 12 of 23 faceoffs for McDaniel, who held a slim 41-38 advantage in shots.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Mary Washington on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
