#13 Mary Washington Tops Wesley in CAC Action
Senior attacker Caitlin Erickson (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) scored six goals and added four assists in tying her own school record with 10 points to lead the 13th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 22-6 win over Wesley College on Tuesday at the Battleground in Capital Athletic Conference play. Senior Emily Talbot (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) had five goals and two assists, and senior Amie Bruce (Valley Lee, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) had five goals for the Eagles, who improve to 4-2 overall, and 2-0 in CAC play.
UMW jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first eight goals of the contest. Julia Milner opened the scoring on an assist from Sarah Finney, and then Erickson scored once and assisted the next three scores. Talbot had all seven of her points in the opening half.
UMW goalkeepers Meredith Deitrick (0 saves) and Helena Polites (3 saves) split time in goal, while Wesley's Farryn Kaufmann had 12 saves in 60 minutes. The Eagles outshot the Wolverines, 40-10, and had 39 ground balls to 28 for the Wolverines.
Wesley was led offensively by Jade Martin, who scored three goals. Stephanie Johnson and Stephanie Bailey each had a goal and an assist for the Wolverines.
Mary Washington will visit seventh-ranked Washington & Lee University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
