Second-Ranked Virginia Breezes by Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Second-ranked Virginia defeated Mount St. Mary's 20-2 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday. Dan Mohr (Lederach, Pa./Souderton Area) notched his team-leading seventh goal of the season for the Mount (0-4) while Kevin Walker (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) found the twine for the first time in his career. Freshman T.C. DiBartolo (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) tied a career-high with 18 saves in the first half.

Garrett Billings paced the Cavaliers (7-0) with four goals and two assists while Ben Rubeor tallied two goals and two assists in the winning effort. The Mountaineers were playing against their fourth-straight ranked opponent and the highest ranked team to come to Emmitsburg, but Virginia took the lead early against the and never looked back for its fifth win against Mount St. Mary's.

The Cavaliers scored the first four goals of the game. Danny Glading, who came in as the team's leading scorer, notched the first score of the afternoon at the 11:06 mark in the first. Brian Carroll, Drew Garrison and Billings also found the net in the first nine minutes of the game for a 4-0 advantage.

Mohr momentarily halted the Virginia run with a tally with 3:14 left in the first before the Cavaliers registered seven more markers to end the half and go into the locker room with an 11-1 advantage. Billings had two goals in the spurt while Rubeor, Gavin Gill, Rhamel Bratton, Peter Lamade and Jack Riley also notched tallies in the final 17 minutes and 47 seconds of the half.

The Cavaliers continued to score in the second half, posting the first nine goals of the last 30 minutes with nine different players notching a goal in the run to take a 20-1 advantage. Walker ended the scoring with his first collegiate tally with 5:31 left in the fourth quarter.

DiBartolo, who had 18 saves against fourth-ranked Maryland on Feb. 26, matched his career-high by turning away 18 shots in the first half on the day. Kyle Overs (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) played the final 30 minutes and recorded 11 stops.

Walker and Dan Gassel (Harper Wood, Mich./Grosse Point North) both paced the Mount defense with four ground balls, and Andrew Miller (Cordova, Md./South River) and Phil Thomas (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) each scooped up three ground balls for the Mountaineers.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday when the team opens up its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule at home against Canisius. Game time is 2:00 p.m.

EMMITSBURG, MD-Thirteen different players scored as Virginia posted a 20-2 win over Mount St. Mary's on a nice, sunny day at the Waldron Family Stadium in the Cavaliers' first trip to Emmitsburg.

Garrett Billings led Virginia's offense with four goals and two assists as the second-ranked Cavaliers improve to 7-0. The Mountaineers fall to 0-4 this season.

Thirteen different Cavaliers scored in the game as all 38 players in uniform saw action.

The teams traded possessions early on before Danny Glading scored on a wraparound at the 11:06 mark to put the visiting Cavaliers on the board first. Brian Carroll scored his only goal of the game on extra man two-and-a-half minutes later as Virginia moved ahead 2-0. Drew Garrison and Billings scored 21 seconds apart midway through the quarter to extend the Cavaliers' lead to 4-0.

Dan Mohr's extra-man goal put the Mountaineers on the scoreboard at the 3:14 mark of the first quarter. His seventh goal of the season would be his team's last for more than 42 minutes.
