Fairfield, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team earned a 14-12 non-conference victory over visiting Boston College this afternoon on Alumni Field. The win, which improves the Stags record to 3-1, is the first in program history over the ACC foe, in eight tries. The Eagles fall to 1-4 with the loss.

It was a game of two halves, as both offenses were near flawless in the first half. Kristen Coleman put the Stags on the board first, nine seconds into the game with an unassisted goal. After back-to-back Eagle tallies, Erin Rigby and Kylee Martin scored consecutive goals, to put the Stags back ahead 3-2. The Eagles scored twice in a 30 second span for the 4-3 advantage. Fairfield would respond with four straight goals, from four different players to open a 7-4 advantage, with 12:50 to play. The Eagles rallied with five goals in 3:34 to take a 9-7 lead, their largest of the game, but the Stags tallied the final three goals of the first half for a 10-9 advantage.

The second half was a defensive effort, as the Stags did not allow a goal for the first 20:04. Fairfield would score three goals in that time, to build a 13-9 lead. The Eagles would make one last charge, scoring three times in 3:08 to get within one goal, with 6:48 to play. Rigby would give the Stags an insurance goal with 4:36 to play, to secure the win.

Lauren Chatnik finished the game with 12 saves in net for the Stags, including eight in the second half. Sheila Serafino took the loss, playing the final 42:50 in net for the Eagles, allowing seven goals and making five saves. Katie Monaghan started the game, allowing seven goals and making one save in the first 17:10.

Rigby finished the game with five points for the Stags, touching net three times and assisting on two other goals. Martin had a pair of goals in the win, including the game-winning tally. Coleman had four points on two goals and two assists, while Cristin Lucena and Rebecca White each scored twice. Mary Vallely had three caused turnovers, three ground balls and a goal in the win.

Jenna McCabe paced the Eagles offense with four goals, while Lauren Fitzpatrick finished with four points as well, netting three goals. Boston College out shot the Stags, 33-22, and won 15 of 28 draw controls.

Fairfield is back in action on Saturday, when it travels to Mount St. Mary's for an 11:00 a.m. game.

Fairfield, Conn. – Boston College lost a close battle to Fairfield, 14-12, on Wednesday afternoon. Junior captain Jenna McCabe netted four goals while classmate Lauren Fitzpatrick recorded three goals and one assist in the loss. The Eagles dropped to 1-4 on the season, while the Stags improved to 3-1.

In a game that saw seven lead changes and six ties, nine BC players tallied points. Junior Maura Mahoney (1g, 1a), sophomore Lauren Costello (2g) and freshman Kaitlyn Horsman (2a) recorded two points each. Junior Sarah Sedgwick and sophomore Peyton Killeen also notched goals to fill out the boxscore.

Fairfield notched the first goal of the game only eight seconds after the players took the field. The Eagles took a 2-1 lead on goals by Fitzpatrick and Mahoney, but the Stags regained the lead by scoring two goals in 23 seconds. It took the Eagles less than one minute to retaliate with goals by Costello and McCabe.

Four straight scores put the Fairfield in front, 7-4. BC nailed five straight in three minutes to make the score 9-7, in the Eagles' favor. With the score tied 9-9, Kim Fuchs nailed a goal with 21 seconds remaining to give the Stags a one-goal advantage heading into the second half.
