Binghamton Rolls Past Siena, 15-7

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Freshman Lisa Illig (Corning, N.Y.) registered the second hat-trick of her collegiate career and the Bearcats received goals from 10 different players as Binghamton women's lacrosse rolled past visiting Siena, 15-7, Wednesday at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Freshman Ali Castiglie (Middle Island, N.Y.) led all players with four points (two goals and two assists). Castiglie now has a team-best 21 points on the season. Fellow freshmen Erica Hill (Delmar, N.Y.) and Kate Tesi (Yorktown, N.Y.), along with Illig, contributed three-points apiece.

The Bearcat women have now won three of four home contests at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Binghamton scored six of the game's first seven goals, staking claim to a commanding 6-1 advantage at the 13:48 mark of the first half. The Saints answered with a 2-1 run, but the Bearcats stretched the lead to 10-3 with a 3-0 run to close the half. The 10 first-half goals represented a Bearcats' season-high.

BU twice led by as many as 10 over the final 30 minutes of action, before a pair of Siena goals late created the final margin.

Also contributing for BU, senior tri-captain Leanne Musso (Auburn, N.Y.) had a pair of goals to raise her season total to a team-best 12. Musso has now recorded a point in nine straight games dating back to last season.

The Bearcat women also received a goal apiece from senior Kristen Marsjanik (Webster, N.Y.), junior Julia Demuth (Jordan, N.Y.), sophomore Erika Travis (Geneva, N.Y.), and freshmen Beth Moore (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Kate Concialdi (Yorktown, N.Y.).

Defensively, freshman goalie Lauren Scott (Jarrettsville, Md.) manned the cage for BU picking up her third victory of the season (3-2).

Juniors Kara Slowik (Warners, N.Y.) and Kim Delperuto (Syracuse, N.Y.) along with sophomore Christina Smith (Somers, N.Y.) all turned in strong efforts on the Bearcat backline. Slowik had three ground balls, a draw control, and was a key cog in BU's transition game throughout the evening. Delperuto finished with a game-high four groundballs and Smith chipped in with two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Junior Ryan Tierney led Siena with a pair of goals.

Binghamton (3-4, 0-1 AE) returns to action on Sunday when they head to Canisius for a 1:00 p.m. contest.

Notes: The all-time series is now tied at 3-3. The Saints won last year's meeting by an 18-11 margin in Loudonville...The 15 goals is a season-best.

Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena women's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action this evening dropping the first game in its five game road trip, 15-7 to Binghamton. Junior attack Ryan Tierney posted a two goal evening, while sophomore attack Catherine Quinlan added a pair of points including a goal for the Saints (1-3).

The Bearcats (3-4) struck early an often in the opening 30 minutes, building a 6-1 lead just over 16 minutes into the game on Lisa Illig's second goal of the contest. Illig added another goal 33 seconds into the second half in recording a hat trick.

Siena close the gap late in the first half to 7-3 on goals by Lindsey Rosecrans and Tierney, but Binghamton rattled off three goals in the final five minutes to take a commanding 10-3 lead entering intermission.

The Bearcats extended their lead to ten (14-4) early on before the Saints rallied to tally three of the final four goals of the game to finish with a 15-7 loss.
