Eastern Connecticut Overmatched by No. 11 Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – Ten different players scored goals as the Trinity College women's lacrosse team raced to a 13-goal halftime lead on the way to a 17-3 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Wednesday afternoon at Robin L. Sheppard Field.

The win is the fifth for No. 11 nationally-ranked Trinity (2-0) against Eastern (0-2) without a loss in this series. The Bantams were coming off an 18-15 win over No. 13 nationally-ranked Colby College while Eastern absorbed a 13-7 loss to No. 19 Wesleyan University.

Trinity scored on 14 of its 21 shots in the first half in moving out to a 14-1 halftime lead. The Warriors were able to clear only ten of their 19 attempts in the game, which accounted for many of their game total of 29 turnovers.

Junior defender Sara Barrett (Bourne, MA) picked up five ground balls for Eastern and also caused two of Trinity's 23 turnovers. Senior defender Meghan Harris (Bedford, MA) added four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Senior midfielder Megan Gloster (Agawam, MA) won six of Eastern's 12 draws, collected three ground balls and caused three turnovers.

First-year sophomore transfer Brooke Wayte (Bellport, NY) scored her first goal in an Eastern uniform (second of her collegiate career) on an assist from Gloster which got the Warriors on the board 13 minutes into the match. Active career scoring leader Lily Anderson (Portland, ME) recorded her 90th career goal to round out the scoring with 2:20 left.

Sarah Remes, a second-team all-region midfielder as a freshman last year, scored three goals – all in the first half – for Trinity, which also got a pair of goals from five additional players. First-team all-region senior goalie Michelle Smith made seven saves for Trinity. She made four saves and allowed only one goal in the first half.

Eastern opens its home season Friday at 4:00 p.m. against first-time opponent Mount Holyoke College.
