#1 Franklin & Marshall Rolls to Win at #19 McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Shannon Summers recorded five goals and four assists to lead top-ranked Franklin & Marshall to a 23-2 victory over No. 19 McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse opener for both teams on Saturday.

The Diplomats (3-0, 1-0 CC) got no fewer than four points from six different players while holding the Green Terror (4-1, 0-1 CC) to a single goal in each half. Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) and Stephanie Sudbrook (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) tallied McDaniel's two markers.

Summers got the scoring going early, scoring twice in the game's first 8:52 to stake the visitors to a 3-0 lead. Blake Hargest, who tallied five points on three goals and two assists, assisted on the game's first two markers. A Sarah Meisenberg free-position goal at the 12:39 mark pushed the lead to 4-0 before Ferruzzi tallied unassisted in the 18th minute to get the Green Terror on the board.

Meisenberg tallied her second goal and final goal at the 19:25 mark before notching her first of four assists on one of four Jen Pritchard goals 1 minute, 2 seconds later to ignite a 13-0 run over a 30-minute, 13-second span to take a 17-1 lead. Pritchard had three goals in the run while Meredith Lussier added her first two goals of the season. Ashley Bevington, who finished with four goals, and Hargest each tallied twice in the span.

After Sudbrook knocked home a Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) pass at the 51:10 mark, Hargest, Lussier and Bevington each finished Summers feeds over the next 3 minutes, 31 seconds to push the lead to 20-2. Taryn Webb added her first collegiate goal before Bevington and Summers rounded out the scoring.

Franklin & Marshall finished with a 44-10 advantage in shots and won 17 of the 27 draw controls, led by six wins by Meisenberg and five by Pritchard. McDaniel returns to action at Washington and Lee on Saturday. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

After jumping out to a 9-1 lead at halftime, the Diplomats (3-0, 1-0 CC) scored 14 more in the second while holding the Green Terror (4-1, 0-1 CC) to just one goal in each half for their first conference win and second over a nationally-ranked opponent.

Shannon Summers (North Wales, PA/The Hill School) led the scoring frenzy with five goals and four assists for a game-high nine points. Jen Pritchard (Media, PA/Penncrest) and Sarah Meisenberg (Severna Park, MD/Severn School) recorded six points apiece. Pritchard netted four goals and dished out two assists and Meisenberg tallied the opposite (2g, 4a).

Netminder Lidia Sanza (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's School for girls) turned away five out of 10 McDaniel shots, while Sarah White made five saves in 30 minutes of work for the Green Terror.

Blake Hargest (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's School for girls) and Summers had a hand in two out of the first four F&M goals to start the game. The Diplomats opening run was interrupted with a Chelsea Ferruzzi goal at the 12:31 mark to make it 4-1.

F&M netted the next five goals, including Meredith Lussier's (Radnor, PA/Radnor) first collegiate goal with 5:54 left in the half.

The Diplomats 5-0 spurt to end the half turned into 13 unanswered goals that spilled over into the second half for a 17-1 commanding lead. Pritchard finished three goals, while Summers and Hargets added two each in the run.
