#18 Boston University Outgunned by #17 George Mason

The No. 18 Boston University lacrosse team was unable to slow No. 17 George Mason down Saturday, dropping the Terriers' home opener 19-15 at Nickerson Field. It was a game of streaks, as both teams seemed to score the majority of their goals in bunches. Senior co-captains Molly Collins and Lauren Morton and sophomore Traci Landy each had three goals, while sophomore McKinley Curro had two goals and two assists and junior Steph Walker had two goals. Junior Sarah Dalton also had two points (1g, 1a) and sophomore Erica Baumgartner tallied a goal.

The 15 goals scored in the game were the most the Terriers have ever mustered in a loss, overtaking the former mark set against Stony Brook last season, a game that Boston University lost 16-13.

After Morton scored the game's first goal only 48 seconds into the contest, George Mason scored six of the next seven to build a 6-2 advantage. The Terriers (3-2, 0-0 AE) fought back quickly, notching seven of the next eight goals to build a 9-7 lead, but soon lost the upper hand. The Patriots (5-1, 0-0 CAA) went on another run at the end of the first half and extending into the second, scoring seven of eight goals to build a 14-10 lead they would not relinquish. The teams exchanged goals after that point, with each side scoring five more to reach the final score.

George Mason senior Megan Bartlett led all scorers with five goals and one assist, while freshman Chelsea Gamble tied Bartlett for the game high in points with three goals and three assists.

BU scored five of its goal on free-position opportunities, taking advantage of seven chances. The Patriots were four-for-six in free-position shots. George Mason held the advantage in shots on goal (32-27), ground balls (13-11) and draw controls (21-14), while the teams tied in turnovers with 10 apiece.

Sophomore Rachel Klein made seven saves in goal, tying her lowest single-game total this season.

The Terriers will look to get back on the winning track Wednesday, as the team hosts No. 11/13 Yale at Nickerson Field at 4:00 p.m.
