Captains Sink Shenandoah

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Host Christopher Newport University used a strong first half Sunday afternoon to fuel a 23-1 USA South Conference women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah.

The Captains (3-2, 2-0 USA South) scored 18 goals in the first half to build an insurmountable lead over the Hornets (0-5, 0-2).

Freshman Sara Mucciaro scored Shenandoah's lone goal on a free position shot with 6:57 to play. The attempt was one of five that the squad had on the afternoon.

Christopher Newport saw sixteen different women register at least one point with Bonnie Hansen's four goals and two assists for six points leading the way. Five others scored at least three points.

SU keeper Virginia Thomas made seven saves in the losing effort, but was hampered by a 38-7 shot differential. CNU outshot the Hornets 29-4 in the first 30 minutes.

The Captains also won 21 of the game's 26 draws.
