Tigers Can't Get over the Hump vs. Connecticut College
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Connecticut College blew a four-goal lead in the first half, then came back from three goals down to stun Colorado College in a Division III women's lacrosse game on Tuesday night at CC's Washburn Field.
The Camels converted on five of 10 free-position shots, including their first three in the opening 4:42 of the game and then two more in the last 5:40 which proved to be the game-tying and go-ahead goals.
The Tigers outscored Connecticut College 9-2 during a 30-minute span in the middle of the game and held a three-goal lead when sophomore attacker Marisa McGrann scored with 15:43 remaining in the second half.
The momentum shifted when senior midfielder Jen Robinson scored twice in a span of 1:52 to pull the Camels to within a goal at 9-8 with 11:06 to play. Colorado College had several chances to pad its lead over the next five minutes, but turnovers kept the lead at one.
Sophomore Valerie Cramner made seven saves for the Tigers during the final 51:30. Sophomore goaltender Jenna Ross had 12 saves and forced four turnovers, including two in the final three minutes when CC had a chance to tie the game.
Junior midfielder Emily Mason put the game away when she scored an unassisted goal with 2:13 left in the game after breaking in alone on Cranmer while the Tigers were trying to force a turnover by double teaming the ball.
Sophomore midfielder Kristin Rider paced the CC offense with three goals and two assist. McGrann added two goals and set up two other scores.
Sophomore attacker Sarah Christopher had a team-high three goals for the Camels, while senior midfielder Lindsey Coit scored twice and had two assists.
Colorado College will be back in action on Wednesday night when the Tigers play host to Goucher College.
