McDaniel Slops Their Way to 6-4 Win over Lasell
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) had a hand in five of McDaniel's six goals, tallying two goals and three assists to carry his squad to a 6-4 win over Lasell in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
David Bulhoes tallied twice during a four-goal flurry to pace the Lasers (4-1), who turned a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead with 9:07 remaining in the third quarter before the Green Terror (3-2) tallied the final three markers for the win.
After Bulhoes' second goal early into the third quarter, Preston tallied his second marker of the game 56 seconds later to knot the game at 4-all.
With eight-tenths of a second remaining in the third quarter, Matthew Daley (Wilmington, Del./A.I. Dupont) fired home a quick pass from Preston for his first goal of the season, giving McDaniel the advantage going to the final period.
With 9:29 to play, Preston found Bill Warner (Yardley, Pa./LaSalle) in the middle of the defense to give the hosts a two-goal advantage.
Midway through the opening period, Evan Young (Easton, Md./Broadneck) took a Daley feed and finished for a 1-0 lead.
Nearly two minutes later, it was Preston finishing a Mike Hatton (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) pass to double the advantage.
After being awarded an extra-man opportunity just 21 seconds into the second quarter, the Green Terror needed just 14 seconds to make it a 3-0 game when Matt Buschman (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) finished the first of Preston's helpers.
Within a minute, Brian Yepez, who finished with a goal and two assists, got Lasell on the board.
Bulhoes made it a 3-2 game at the 9:09 mark of the second period before Ryan Koerner added a man-up goal with 4:37 remaining in the half to knot the game at 3-all, entering halftime.
Daniel Bryden (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) won 9 of 13 faceoffs. Anthony Falgares (Watchang, N.J./St. Joseph) and Nelson Hannahs (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) each picked up six ground balls.
McDaniel opens the Centennial Conference schedule at No. 6 Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
