Kenyon Tops Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. Caely Melford scored four goals and added three assists as Kenyon recorded a 17-11 victory over Washington & Jefferson in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.

Kenyon (4-0) is off to its best start since 1982. The Ladies never trailed after scoring the first three goals and building an 11-5 halftime lead. Washington & Jefferson narrowed the gap to 15-11 late in the second half, but KC scored the final two goals to seal the win.

Amanda Drummond fired in four goals for Kenyon, while Liz Hancock netted a hat trick. Jackie Shireffs and Jenny Fitzgerald both racked up two goals. Chase Kreuter was strong in goal after turning back 14 President shot attempts.

Freshman attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) poured in a season-high five goals for W&J (1-2). Freshman Shannon Rainey (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) collected her first career hat trick, while junior midfielder Laura Peery (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) added two scores.

Sophomore midfielder Rachel Cogley (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) rounded out four W&J scorers with one goal. Freshman Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) suffered the loss despite making eight saves.

The Presidents hit the road for the first time in history on April 2nd when they travel to Allegheny for a 4:30 pm contest.
