Amherst Moves to 5-0 with Win over Hamilton
ORLANDO, FL - The Amherst College men's lacrosse team will return home from Spring Break and start NESCAC play undefeated, as it took care of Hamilton 10-7 this afternoon. The Lord Jeffs are 5-0, and will face Bates Saturday in the conference opener on the road.
Amherst jumped out to a 5-1 lead over the first quarter of the game, and pushed that lead to 8-3 by the halftime break. The Lord Jeffs played well in the opening half, led by senior tri-captain T.J. Jackson (Haverford, PA). Jackson finished the game with four goals and an assist, including the eventual game-winner in the second corner off a feed from junior Brett Miller (Wantagh, NY).
Leading scorer Tom McDonnell (Manhasset, NY) was held to just a pair of goals in the win, while junior Tim Thornton (Garden City, NY) and senior Will Ferrer (Greenwich, NY) each had a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
In the second half, Hamilton closed the margin for Amherst down to 8-7, before the Jeffs put the game away late.
Amherst recieved a serious boost in the face-off department from sophomore Matt Kellman (Wilton, CT) who grabbed ten of the twelve Jeff face-off wins.
Junior Matt Pietroforte (Brooklyn, NY)played exception in the cage for Amherst, making 25 saves in the win.
Amherst will kick-off their NESCAC schedule on Saturday afternoon in a game at Bates at 2:00 p.m.
