Scoring Run Propels #15 Boston U. over Binghamton
Vestal, N.Y. - Junior Sarah Dalton notched her 100th career goal Friday, as the No. 15 Boston University lacrosse team defeated Binghamton 19-8 to earn a win in its first conference contest this season.
Dalton led the Terriers (5-2, 1-0 AE) with four goals, while senior co-captain Lauren Morton and sophomore Traci Landy each notched three scores. Sophomores Jenny Taft and Caitlin Defliese and freshmen Rachel Collins and Alyssa Kovach each tallied their first goals of the season, with Taft and Collins racking up two scores apiece. Sophomore Erica Baumgartner chipped in four assists, sophomore Xan Weitzel had three and sophomore Rachel Klein made nine saves.
The Terriers built a 4-1 lead early in the game behind goals from Morton, Collins, Weitzel and Dalton, but the Bearcats soon fought back with two goals to cut BU's lead to one goal. However, the Terriers then scored 13 of the next 15 goals, including scoring from Dalton, Landy and junior Steph Walter, to build a 17-5 lead 10 minutes into the second half. Though BU then surrendered three consecutive goals, Morton notched two more scores to close the day's scoring.
The Terriers led Binghamton in shots ground balls (9-6) and draw controls (15-14), scoring two of their goals off four free-position opportunities.
The 19 goals scored on the afternoon were the most BU has scored in one game this season, after the Terriers notched 17 against Vanderbilt on March 12. Ten different players scored for BU, the most scorers the team has had in one game this year.
The Terriers get right back at it tomorrow, visiting Albany for more America East action at John Fallon Field at 3:00 p.m.
