No. 15 Cortlands Falls to No. 5 College of New Jersey

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Karen Doane (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater- Raritan) and freshman Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) each scored four goals to lead nationally fifth-ranked The College of New Jersey to a 16-4 win over 15th-ranked Cortland Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons fell to 3-3 with the loss, which was the team's first setback at home since the 2004 season also against the Lions. Cortland had won 30 straight home contests entering today's game. The College of New Jersey improved to 3-0 on the season.

Senior Rachel Cornwell (Fairport) and junior Danielle Torre (Massapequa) led the Red Dragons with a goal and an assist each. Senior Beth Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) and sophomore Jessie Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored one goal apiece. Sophomore Deanne Abell (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) started between the pipes and made nine saves in 40 minutes, 12 seconds. Sophomore Sarah Farrell (Syracuse/ Henninger) played the final 19:48 and stopped four shots.

For The College of New Jersey, junior Kelly Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/ Lenape) and sophomore Angela Wilmer (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) each netted two goals and senior Toni-Anne Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex Regional) added a goal and two assists. Senior goalie Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) registered six saves.

Cortland took its only lead of the game 46 seconds into the opening half when Cornwell set up Torre's 10th goal of the season. The Lions answered with four straight, including two from Doane, for a 4-1 lead with 13:50 remaining in the half. After Fritz netted her team-high 22nd goal of the season, The College of New Jersey again strung together four goals to stretch its lead to 8-2 and pushed the advantage to 10-3 at intermission.

Wilmer and Cornwell traded goals early in the second half, and the Lions tallied the game's final five goals for the final outcome of 16-4. The Lions outshot the Red Dragons, 33-15, and held a 15-7 advantage in draw controls for the game.
