No. 8 Washington & Lee Downs 19th-Ranked McDaniel
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) tallied four goals and two assists to lead the eighth-ranked Washington and Lee womens lacrosse team to an 18-5 victory over No. 19 McDaniel on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Evans scored three goals in the opening 10:14 of the game as the Generals pushed out to a 10-1 lead. McDaniel responded as sophomore attacker Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) notched two unassisted goals to make it 10-3 at the 5:44 mark, but the Generals added two more tallies for a 12-3 edge at the half.
The Generals (8-1) struck first in the second period, including back-to-back goals from senior midfielder Megan Slosson (Cockesville, Md./Maryvale Prep) early in the half. Junior attacker Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) then found the back of the net at 21:12 to make it a 15-4 game, but the Green Terror could get no closer.
Evans scoring was supplemented by Slossons two goals and two assists. Freshman midfielder Emily Mathews (Charlottesville, Va./St.Annes-Belfield) tallied three goals and one assist, while sophomore attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and junior attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) added two goals and one assist each. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the entire contest between the pipes and registered 11 saves.
McDaniel (4-2) was led by Hopkins and sophomore attacker Brittany Baer, who had two goals apiece. Sophomore midfielder Stephanie Serbun (Abington, Pa./Abington) chipped in one goal. Senior Sarah White (Lincoln, Del./Cape Henlopen) and sophomore Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Park) split time in the goal and combined to stop four shots.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts No. 4 Middlebury for a 4:00 pm game.

Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) tallied two goals each for the Green Terror (4-2), who were held to five goals or fewer for the second straight game after averaging 14.25 tallies per contests in its first four games.
Mathews converted a free-position shot 3:34 into the game before Kelsi Robinson doubled the advantage, finishing a solo run 26 seconds later.
Britten Mathews made it a 3-0 game, finishing an assist from Emily at the 6:11 mark.
Hopkins momentarily broke up the run with an unassisted tally at the 9:07 mark but Katie Flippen scored 1 minute, 27 seconds later to spark a seven-goal flurry over the next 9:12.
In addition to three Evans goals, Robinson and Emily Mathews added markers in the stretch.
Back-to-back Baer tallies trimmed the deficit to 10-3 before Christine Bender and Evans responded in the final 5:22 of the half to make it a nine-goal game at the intermission.
Both of Megan Slosson's goals and a Laura Henson free-position goal pushed the lead to 15-3, putting the game out of reach with 23:11 to play.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington (Md.) on Wednesday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
