Colby Improves to 4-0 with Victory over Trinity
MEDFORD, Mass. --- Colby College improved to 4-0 overall after Whit McCarthy (Darien, Conn.) had four goals and one assist to power the Mules to a 9-7 victory over Trinity College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse Saturday at Tufts University.
The Mules move to 2-0 in the league, while Trinity falls to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
McCarthy had his five points after sitting out the last game with an injury. Dana McNally (Sudbury, Mass.) added one goal and two assists for the Mules, Todd Boertzel (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) had one goal and one assist, and first-year midfielder Mark Squicciarino (Titusville, N.J.) dished two assists. Colby got single goals from Zach Goodnough (Brunswick, Maine), Drew Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass.), and Caddy Brooks (Darien, Conn.).
The Mules and Bantams were tied after each quarter with both teams scoring twice in each of the opening three periods. Colby exploded for the opening three goals of the final quarter before Trinity tallied in the final minute.
Harper Cullen (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) and Rob Mountain (New Canaan, Conn.) each had two goals for Trinity. Jeremy Ulan (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Connor Wells (Haddam, Conn.) both had one goal and one assist for the Bantams, while Greg Brennan (East Setauket, N.Y.) had the other goal.
Alex Farmer (Madison, Conn.) had 12 saves in goal for Colby, while Alex Palma (Chappaqua, N.Y.) also had 12 stops for the Bantams.
The Mules head to Clearwater, Fla., and will play MIT on Monday at 6:00 p.m. Trinity plays at Wheaton College at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.
