Guilford Falls to Sewanee in Overtime

SEWANEE, Tenn. (3-21-08) - Guilford College was on the Mountain Friday night and faced off against Sewanee University men's lacrosse action in front of a capacity crowd in the "Pit." After trailing most of the game, Sewanee tied it up 10-10 in the fourth quarter with one minute left on a Louis Smart (Charlotte, N.C.) goal. A minute and a half into the extra period, Teddy Peterson (McLean, Va.) logged his fifth goal of the night, which was the sudden-death winner for Sewanee. Peterson was mobbed by teammates and fans alike, and Sewanee headed to the showers with an 11-10 OT win.

Chris Edge (Chestertown, Md.) had three goals for Sewanee, and John Pinney (Timonium Md.) and Smart each chipped in two. Pinney also amassed four assists on the night. Todd Bochenek led Guilford with three goals and an assist. In goal, Stewart Calder (New Canaan, Conn.) had 14 saves, while Guilford's Andrew Vigne had eight.

Sewanee picked up 26 ground balls compared to Guilford's 20. Guilford outshot Sewanee 35-26. Sewanee had 11 successful clears and Guilford had 12.

Sewanee falls to moves to 2-3 and will play Oberlin at noon tomorrow. Guilford is now 2-5 so far in 2008.
