Canisius Hammers Howard for 5th Win in a Row

The Canisius College womens lacrosse team matched a school record by winning its fifth consecutive game, winning at Howard, 22-6. The Griffs improve to 5-3 on the season.

It was great to get the win today, said Canisius head coach Scott Teeter. We did a good job with the little things today. It was also nice to get the bench in and see Kaitlyn Black score her first collegiate goal.

Senior Lauren Walsh (Auburn, N.Y.) led a Canisius attack that featured 12 different scorers for the Griffs. Walsh tallied seven points on four goals and three assists. Junior Ashley Gray (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and freshman Carly Quinn (Orangeville, Ontario) scored three goals each. Senior Whitney Card (Alton, Ontario), junior Chelsea Martinez (Bethpage, N.Y.) and freshman Emily Maguire (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) each netted two goals, while six other players added one score, including freshman Kaitlyn Black (Finleyville, Pa.), who scored her first collegiate goal.

It was fun today, Black said. It was nice that everybody got a chance to help our ream earn the win. It was also really exciting to score my first goal.

Freshman Allison Daley (Peterborough, Ontario) stopped six shots in goal.

The Griffs netted the first eight goals of the game to take control of the contest. Canisius, who entered intermission with a 13-4 advantage, used another 8-0 run in the second half to seal the victory.

Canisius continues play during its Spring Break trip on Tuesday, with a matchup against Navy. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
