Drew Suffers First Loss at Hands of No. 14 Colby

Drew women's lacrosse suffered its first defeat of the season as the visiting Colby Mules, ranked 14th in the NCAA, swarmed the Rangers in the first half to take a 18-5 decision. The Rangers trailed 9-1 at the half despite strong play in goal by Stef Rutkowski and any hope of a comeback was dashed by a three goal spurt by Colby to open the second. Drew got goals from five different scorers while Kat Kramer had four for Colby (3-1) and Katie Sheridan and Amy Campbell each had three.

The Mules scored the games first nine goals in the first 21 minutes of play in the game. Kramer, Sheridan (a two-time All-American) and Becky Julian each had two goals in the first half. The Rangers could have trailed by more, but Rutkowski made nine saves in the opening period. Lindsey Perno pulled back a late goal for Drew.

The Rangers played better in the second half, scoring four times. After Kramers third of the game with 18:50 left to play, Drew got the offense going as Samantha Silver and Meg Santaniello each tallied. Colby grabbed two more before Cara Jeffries scored on a well taken free position shot and Stacie Brown and Morgan Kenney worked the nicest of the Ranger goals with just over seven to go. Colby added four more before the final whistle came. Rutkowski finished with 18 saves for Drew.

Things get no easier for the Rangers, who will be tested over the next few weeks. Drew travels to Muhlenberg for a game on Wednesday evening before hosting Rowan next Saturday.
