No. 1 Franklin & Marshall Shuts Down Shorewomen

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team scored on 20 out of the 29 shots taken, while holding Washington to just two goals to collect its second Centennial Conference (CC) victory of the season on Saturday.

Jen Pritchard (Media, PA/Penncrest) led the Diplomats (6-0) with five goals, five draw controlsand five ground balls, while Shannon Summers (North Wales, PA/The Hill School), Meredith Lussier (Radnor, PA/Radnor) and Laura Ruppersberger (Baltimore,MD/St. Paul's School for Girls) each netted a hat trick.

Liz Cumberpatch recorded a goal and assist for the Shoremen (4-4, 0-2 CC).

F&M fired off 15 shots in the opening half, scoring on 13 to take a commanding lead after the first 30 minutes. Pritchard started the scoring and sandwiched two goals among Ruppersberger's first goal for a 3-0 lead.

Summers, who also added two assists on the afternoon, sent a shot past goalie Amber Madore at the 20:13 mark while Ashley Bevington (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School) and Ruppersberger mimicked with unassisted tallies for a six-goal advantage.

The Diplomats converted five free-position shots on the day, including one from Ruppersberger with 11:04 left in the half. Pritchard finished the third 8-meter shot taken and followed that up with her fourth goal to make it 12-0.

Summers scored the last goal of the first half off a feed from Sarah Meisenberg (Severna Park, MD/Severn School), before Brittany Lambert got Washington on the board with 3:25 remaining.

In the second half, F&M put up seven more goals with Sara Veneski (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Lindsay Evans-Leary found the back of the net for the first time this season.

Mary Blake Hargest (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's School for girls) recorded four points in the win (2g, 2a) and Lidia Sanza (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's School for girls) made one save before making way for Chelsea Meerbach (York, PA/York) in the second half. Meerbach tallied three stops in 17 minutes of work. .

The win marked the second time this season the Diplomats have held an opponent to just two goals.

F&M returns to action on Thursday at Swarthmore. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

LANCASTER, PA -- Top-ranked host Franklin & Marshall scored 13 goals on 15 shots in the first half en route to a 20-2 Centennial Conference women's lacrosse victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Lancaster, PA. The Diplomats, the defending NCAA Division III National Champions, improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 4-4 and 0-2 with the loss.

Jen Pritchard paced F&M with five goals, scoring on all five of her shots. Shannon Summers added three goals and two assists, while Laura Ruppersberger scored three goals and had one assist. Meredith Lussier also netted three goals, while Mary Blake Hargest fired in two goals and assisted on two others.

Freshman midfielder Liz Cumberpatch (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) scored one goal for Washington and assisted on a goal by junior midfielder Brittany Lambert (Riva, MD/South River). F&M held a 29-9 advantage in shots in the game.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel.
