Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Chops Loggers

Claremont, CA - The CMS Athenas continued their home field dominance this Sunday as they overpowered the visiting UPS Loggers 21-6. The Athenas improve to 7-2 overall, while the Loggers drop to 4-2 on the season.

The Athenas controlled the game early but initially had trouble finding the back of the net. Senior Callae Snively (Englewood, CO) was the first to finish, as she capitalized off a point blank feed from fellow senior Lindsay Gaesser (Charlottesville, VA). Puget Sound answered with a goal almost a minute later from their freshman standout, Sofia Lama (Laguna Niguel, CA). CMS then went on a 4-0 run with back-to-back goals from sophomore Colbi Brawner (Bainbridge Island, WA) followed by scores from senior captain Olivia Rotondi (New York, NY) and first year Sarah Dick (Beverly, MA).

Puget Sound, who came into the contest averaging 18.4 goals a game, was able to pull within three at the halfway mark in the first half, before the CMS Athenas went on a 10-0 stretch, holding the high scoring Loggers scoreless for over 15 minutes of play.

The Athenas ended the day with 13 players finding their way onto the scorebook, led by Brawner, (5g), Dick, (3g, 1a) and Gaesser, (4a). All three CMS goaltenders saw playing time for the Athenas and combined for 8 saves.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will be in action again on Wednesday, April 2 as they host Redlands under the lights on Zinda Field at 7:00 pm.
