CLEARWATER, Fla. --- The Colby College men's lacrosse team moved to within one victory of tying the best start in program history after taking an easy 14-1 victory over MIT on Monday in non-conference play in Florida.

The Mules are 5-0 to start the season for only the second time since the varsity program was started in 1972. The 1991 squad began the season at 6-0. Colby plays at seventh-ranked Middlebury College (4-0) on Saturday at noon. The Mules won at home over the Panthers last year.

Senior co-captain Dana McNally had one goal and four assists to pace the Mules. Caddy Brooks added three goals and one assist, Whit McCarthy had three goals, and Drew Piekarski finished with two goals and one assist. Zach Goodnough also tallied for Colby, which led 3-0 after a quarter and 9-1 at halftime.

Patrick Briody, Jamie Leake, John Moriarty, and John LoVerme all scored their first collegiate goals for the Mules.

Tom Gianakos and Tim Patch combined for 13 saves in goal for Colby.
