Brown Topples Vermont with Second Half Surge

Providence, Rhode Island - With the score tied 3-3 at the half, Brown utilized a 6-0 run from the start of the third quarter to the 12:10 mark of the fourth quarter to break the game open and cruise to 11-7 men's lacrosse win over Vermont at Meister-Kavan Field. Sophomore Thomas Muldoon scored all three of his goals in the 6-0 Brown spurt, while junior Jack Walsh also netted three goals for the Bears. The win extends Brown's record to 5-2 overall, while Vermont drops to 1-7.

Coming off a big win over Dartmouth on Saturday, the Bears looked lethargic in the first half. The Bears held a 2-1 lead on goals by junior Kyle Hollingsworth and Walsh, but fell behind, 3-2, after one quarter following goals by Vermont's Derek Lichtfuss and Harris Middel.

Bears' freshman Andrew Feinberg scored the lone goal of the second quarter to tie the game at the half, 3-3.

Muldoon led the Bears out of hibernation by igniting the 6-0 run with a goal at 10:48 of the third quarter, giving Brown the lead for good, 4-3. Brown scored three more third quarter goals on scores by Walsh, sophomore Brady Williams and Muldoon once again to grab a 7-3 lead after three quarters.

The onslaught continued into the fourth quarter with Muldoon scoring 21 seconds into the quarter, and Walsh adding his third goal of the game with 12:10 remaining, giving the Bears a 9-4 advantage.

Lichtfuss netted his second goal of the game for the Catamounts to temporarily stop the Bears' surge, but Brown quickly answered with goals by junior Reade Seligmann and freshman Patrick Curtin for their biggest lead, 11-4, with 6:05 left in the game. Three late Vermont goals accounted for the final 11-7 score.

Bears' goalie Jordan Burke allowed four goals while making eight saves in 53:55 of play. He was relieved by freshman Matt Chriss, who played the last six minutes. Vermont goalie Justin Lubas made seven saves in the Catamount net.

The Bears will be back in action again on Saturday, traveling to Newark, Delaware to face the University of Delaware. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown's leading scoring Thomas Muldoon scored three goals and Jack Walsh also added a hat trick to lead the Bears to an 11-7 win against Vermont at Stevenson Field on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Derek Lichtfuss (Lutherville, Md.) had two goals and senior Shay Cunningham (Southborough, Mass.) had a pair of assists for the Catamounts, who dropped to 1-7 with the loss. Brown improved to 5-2 with the victory.

Juniors Brandon Goodwyn (Bethesda, Md.) and Alex Young (Cincinnati, Ohio) each had a goal and an assist for Vermont. Freshman Liam Teer (Vancouver, B.C.) went 12-for-19 on face offs, scored a goal and grabbed a team-high three ground balls.

With Vermont trailing 2-1 in the first quarter, Lichtfuss and freshman Harris Middel (Potomac, Md.) scored back-to-back goals to give the Catamounts a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes.

Brown recorded the only goal of the second quarter to make the score 3-3 at halftime.

The Bears notched the first six goals of the second half to open up a 9-3 cushion with just over 14 minutes left in the game. Muldoon scored three of the six goals, including one on the man advantage. He has 16 goals and 20 points this season.

Lichtfuss, Goodwyn, Young and senior Trevor Wagar (Demar, N.Y.) each had a goal in the fourth quarter for the Catamounts but the Bears held on for the 11-7 win.

UVM senior Justin Lubas (Freehold, N.J.) made seven saves and had three ground balls. Brown junior Jordan Burke recorded eight saves. The Catamounts went 1-for-4 on the power play and held the Bears to just 1-for-7.

Vermont opens up America East play on Saturday at Hartford at 1:00 pm.

NOTES: Brown was receiving votes in the latest USILA top-20 poll ... The Bears out shot the Catamounts 31-28 ... Brown leads the all-time series against Vermont 4-0 ...
