Hickman Shines in First Night Game for #1 Sea Gulls
SALISBURY, Md. - In their first night game at Sea Gull Stadium the Salisbury University men's lacrosse team dominated all aspects of the game as they tallied another Capital Athletic Conference victory with a 25-4 win over York (Pa.) College before a crowd of 412 on Tuesday evening. York (6-4, 2-2 CAC) scored a quick first goal, less then two minutes into the game, Salisbury (10-0, 4-0 CAC) answered back as the top-ranked Sea Gulls scored the next five goals.
Senior Matt Hickman had an outstanding night as he recorded season-highs for goals (seven), assists (three) and points (10). Hickman scored six goals in the first half including three in a row in a span of five minutes in the second quarter.
The Sea Gull attack also received strong games from junior Patrick Bonanno (four goals, one assist) and sophomore Jake DeLillo added three goals for the maroon and gold.
SU is now 94-0 all-time in conference play, 75-0 during the conference regular-season. Salisbury has won its past 33 games since the start of last season and is 72-0 during the regular-season and 66-0 at home since 2003.
SU led 17-2 at the half as the Sea Gulls went on a 20-0 run that started in the first quarter and ended in the fourth quarter. York was held scoreless for over 46 minutes during that span. The Spartans added two goals in the final 30 seconds in the fourth quarter.
Salisbury won 22-of-32 face-offs on the night and converted 6-of-7 extra-man opportunities. The Sea Gulls outshot York 44-7 in the first half and 65-22 for the game.
SU senior Bruce Richardson and junior Stephen Krasco had two goals and one assist apiece. The Sea Gulls received one goal apiece from Kylor Berkman (three assists), Mike Von Kamecke (one assist), Mike Winter (one assist), Ryan Brown, Erik Krum, Mike Yetter and Spencer Smith. Sophomore Ryan Finch and freshman Shawn Zordani each added one assist in the win.
Between the pipes, junior Riley Clark made three saves in 30 minutes of play while fellow junior Zach Krissoff (three saves) played 19 minutes in the goal in the second half. Junior Mike Petti and senior Nick Fiorentino (two saves) both saw action in the fourth quarter.
York was led by senior Steve Roy with two goals. In the goal, Matt Keeler came up with six saves, Chris Collins recorded four saves and Joe Kenworthy made a save in the game.
Salisbury next travels to Gettysburg, Pa., to face the second-ranked Bullets on Saturday, March 29, at 1:00 p.m.
