Green Terror Top Shorewomen, 15-13

WESTMINSTER, Md. – For the third time this season Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) recorded no fewer than seven points in a game, tallying seven goals to go with one assist in McDaniel's 15-13 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse victory over Washington (Md.) on Wednesday.

Baer had her fifth hat trick of the season before halftime, staking the Green Terror (5-2, 1-1 CC) to a 7-5 advantage at the intermission.

Suzie Jakob tallied five goals and two assists to pace the Shorewomen (4-5, 0-3 CC), who found themselves trailing by four goals on four different occasions but twice managed to tie the game.

After finding the net just twice in McDaniel's last two games, Baer needed just 48 seconds to get off and running against Washington, finishing a solo run for her first marker.

Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) made it 2-0, finishing a Kerrie Wuenschel (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) feed at the 3:24 mark.

Tallies from Kelly Scheler (Forest Hills, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Baer 1 minute, 5 seconds apart pushed the lead to 4-0 with 10:41 elapsed.

A defensive miscommunication led to an own goal at the 12:07 mark, starting a four-goal flurry for the Shorewomen and knotting the game at 4-all.

A pair of Jakub helpers to Sarah Cannon and Page Allen trimmed the deficit to 4-3 before Jakub found the back of the net herself to knot the game with 14 minutes remaining in the opening half.

Baer and Cannon exchanged goals before Wuenschel gave McDaniel the lead for good at the 21:09 mark.

With 3:14 remaining in the stanza, Lindsey McDonald's (Germantown, Md./Damascus) pass through the middle of the defense found its way into the back of the net for a two-goal halftime edge.

Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) won the opening draw of the second half – one of her game-high five draw controls – and took it right to goal for an 8-5 advantage.

Baer once again gave McDaniel a four-goal lead with a free-position goal at the 31:47 mark.

Jakub finished a Jenna Gouck assist 4 minutes, 10 seconds into the second half before Gouck found the net herself with an unassisted tally eight minutes later to slice the deficit in half.

Page Allen pulled the visitors within 9-8 before the two teams exchanged goals over the next nearly six minutes.

Clinging to an 11-10 lead Baer had a hand in three straight goals to push the lead back to four. Baer sandwiched her final two goals with an assist to Shaena Smith (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll)

Two more Jakub tallies and a Liz Cumberpatch goal accounted for the final goals for the Shorewomen, who scored three of the game's final four tallies in a 3-minute, 41-second span.

Sarah White (Lincoln, Del./Cape Henlopen) made 13 saves for McDaniel while Amber Madore had 11 stops for Washington.

The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
