Queens Women's Lacrosse Falls to Belmont Abbey

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 27, 2008) – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team fell to Conference Carolinas rival Belmont Abbey College 10-7 on Thursday night at the Queens University of Charlotte Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park. The Crusaders improve to 7-4overall and 4-2 in conference action while the Royals fall to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn./Cooper) evened the goal at 1-1 for Queens on a free position shot in the 17th minute of play. Belmont Abbey's Tara Chmil scored the Crusader goal five minutes into play on a free position shot.

Carolynn Loan (Cazenovia, N.Y./Herkimer CC) cut a Belmont Abbey two goal lead to one with just 35 ticks remaining on the clock in the first half.

The visitors took two more shots in the half than Queens, 10-8, and had one less turnover, 11-10.

Amanda Martin (Geneva, N.Y./St. Bonaventure University) opened the second half with a goal just over 90 seconds in to tie the game at three all. The Crusaders answered back with goals from Brianna Dignan and Kerri Gut.

In just over two minutes each team scored two more goals.

Belmont Abbey tallied three more goals in the last seven and a half minute of play with Queens notching two to give the Crusaders the 10-7 win.

Logan Canale (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) protected the new for Queens making 11 saves. Kate Gavin made six saves for Belmont Abbey.

Duffey led Queens with three of the seven goals on only five shots. She assisted one goal as well.

Dignan tallied three goals and three assists for the Crusaders.

Queens will play again on Sunday, March 30 at 2:30pm at St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
