First-Half Run Pushes No. 11 Terriers Past Vermont
BOSTON - Behind a career-high tying five goals from senior co-captain Lauren Morton and four more from junior Sarah Dalton, the No. 11 Boston University lacrosse team won its fifth-straight game, overtaking Vermont, 15-8, Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field in the program's first televised game ever. Sophomore Erica Baumgartner had two goals along with two assists, while senior co-captain Molly Collins and sophomores Traci Landy, McKinley Curro and Jenny Martin each had a score. Sophomore Rachel Klein was once again impressive in goal, making 10 saves.
After surrendering the game's opening goal, the Terriers (8-2, 3-0 AE) went on a 13-2 tear to go into the break with a 13-3 advantage. During that run, Morton scored all five of her goals while Dalton had two.
The second half was a different story, however, as the Catamounts (5-4, 2-1 AE) mounted a comeback, notching five of the game's final seven goals. Vermont's first-half deficit was too large to overcome though, and the Terriers picked up the win. While BU had the upper hand in draw controls, owning a 17-8 advantage, most of the other statistical categories were close. Both teams had 16 ground balls and Klein's 10 saves fell just one shy of senior Meaghan Hanley's 11.
The Terriers will have a short road trip this week, facing local competition in Harvard on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Allston, Mass.
