Hild Nets Five as Diplomates Dump Dickinson

LANCASTER, Pa. – Mark Hild (Denver, CO/Denver East) exploded for a season-high five goals and Chris Marcozzi (Springfield, PA/Malvern Prep) made 11 saves to lead Franklin & Marshall over Dickinson 10-8 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

The Diplomats (6-2, 2-1 CC) outscored the Red Devils (6-3, 1-2 CC) 4-2 in the second half, including 3-1 margin in the third quarter to collect their second straight win over Dickinson and second consecutive conference victory.

Noah Wilkinsky (Ardmore, PA/Valley Forge Military) returned from an injury to score a hat trick, while Jeff Ritter (Watchung, NJ/Watchung Hills) dished out to assists.

The Red Devils got four goals Derek Still and goalie Russell Matthews ended with 11 saves.

Franklin & Marshall battled from an early 3-0 deficit, scoring six goals in the first half to knot the game at 6-all after two quarters.

Hild tallied three of his five goals in the second quarter, scoring the first off a Ritter pass with 12:45 on the clock. Wilkinsky buried his shot at 10:37, before Dickinson made it 4-2 on Still's third goal.

The next three tallies were by the Diplomats, once again by Hild and Wilkinsky. Hild scored while playing with a man down and then flew off the face-off to find the back of the net 10 seconds later thanks to a Sean Oliver (Wilton, CT/Wilton) feed and help F&M take its first lead at 5-4.

The Red Devils answered with two unassisted markers and Hild recorded the last goal of the half with 2:44 remaining to even the score.

The Diplomats had four different players score in the final two quarters, starting with Jake Gladstone (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) just 17 seconds into the third for his first collegiate goal.

After Casey Finkelstein made it 7-all at the 12:24 mark, Shane Brennan (West Chester, PA/Haverford School) and Wilkinsky exchanged goals for a 9-7 lead that would not relinquish. Hild's fifth tally made it a three-goal game with 7:14 left to play.

Defensively, Sean Murphy (Towson, MD/Gilman) won 8 out of 15 face-offs and recorded six ground balls.

F&M returns to action on Wednesday at McDaniel. Game time is 4:00 p.m.

(Lancaster, PA)- The Dickinson College men's lacrosse team, suffered a 10-8 Centennial Conference loss at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.

The Red Devils struck first, holding a 2-0 advantage after the first quarter. The Diplomats erased a 3-0 deficit and pulled even as the teams went into halftime tied, 6-6.

The teams traded goals before F&M pulled in front 9-7. The fourth quarter belonged to the defense as each team managed just a goal in the final 15 minutes.

Derek Still (Oreland, PA/Penn Charter) led the Devil attack with four goals on the afternoon. Ted Sirvaitis (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) tallied a pair of goals while Casey Finkelstein (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh) and Harry Kline (Frederick, MD/Mercersburg Academy) each scored once.

Junior Russell Matthews (CHestertown, MD/Kent County) made 10 saves in goal for the Red Devils.

Mark Hild led the way for F&M (6-2, 2-1), scoring five goals. Chris Marcozzi stopped 11 shots in goal for the Diplomats.

The Devils slip to 6-3 and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to host Haverford College next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
