Trinity Falls to No. 16 Tufts in NESCAC Game

Hartford, Conn. – The Tufts University Jumbo men's lacrosse team improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), as freshman attackman Ryan Molloy (Setauket, N.Y.) scored four goals to lead them to a 10-6 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in this afternoon on Sheppard Field. Trinity falls to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the NESCAC with its fourth straight loss, while Tufts, ranked No. 16 in the nation, snaps a three-game losing skid.

With the game tied at 2-2 late in the opening quarter, Tufts went on a 4-0 run over a 27-minute-span, including a goal and an assist each by Malloy and senior captain defenseman Clem McNally (Farhills, N.J.), to give the Jumbos a 6-2 lead midway through the third stanza. Trinity sophomore Andrew Williamson (Sudbury, Mass.) broke the Bantam scoring drought with 2:21 left in the third quarter, but Malloy answered with his third goal of the game and Tufts maintained at least a four-goal cushion the rest of the way.

Freshman attackman D.J. Hessler (Moncton, Md.) added a goal and two assists for the Jumbos, while junior midfielder Rob Mountain (New Canaan, Conn.) and sophomore midfielder Andrew Williamson (Sudbury, Mass.) each scored twice for the Bantams. Jumbo goalie Matt Harrigan (Darnestown, Maryland) stopped 14 shots, while Bantam backstop Alex Palma (Chappaqua, N.Y.) saved eight shots.
